Micro Hangars 2.0
Overview
What is a MicroHangar?
That’s easy, it’s the most cheap and space efficient way to store your ships. No need to invest in plano cases, battle foam or other fancy but expensive storage solutions, all you need is a printer and some cardstock. The MicroHangars are basically cardboard tuckboxes, measured to give the ships a tight fit to protect them. You can print as many as you like without wasting too much ink. After some cutting and glueing I promise that you’ll be amazed how well your ships are protected and organized by nothing more than a piece of paper. And the best part is that you save a lot of money and are able to buy more awesome games instead of investing into unsexy storage solutions.
The original idea for the MicroHangars came from BGG-User DarkPadawan in 2013 for X-Wing: Miniatures Game. When he left I checked with him and he allowed me to take his work and continue it for the sake of the community. I decided to keep his reduced visual style, mainly because I think he’s done a very good job. There’s only one problem, there are no fancy specs graphics out there for the lesser known ships, therefore I tried to make something similar on my own by taking photos of each ship and converting them to something that hopefully looks somewhat like a design sketch.
Building is very straight forward, after all the hangars are standard tuckboxes. The bigger hangars feature additional reinforcement sheets, those aren’t mandatory, but they greatly increase the strength of the bigger boxes. If you run into problems, feel free to contact me. Some general tips on building, paper and other things can be found in my FAQ at the top, some hangar specific hints and more pictures can be found by clicking the tabs above.
2nd Edition changes
You’re a MicroHangar veteran from classic X-Wing? No problem and rest assured, there’s not much to read here. In fact I didn’t really change or re-designed the MicroHangars, mainly because I like their look and because I’d like to spare you the effort to build all hangars again, just to have a unified look. Here’s a list of the subtle changes:
- Changed the logo the new one (no more red/blue logo shenanigans).
- Faction logos have been re-drawn, the difference should be very subtle.
- No more dumb b/w ship graphics from the net, all new MicroHangars will get selfmade ones.
- Some box outlines have been updated with trapezoid shaped tabs.
That’s pretty much it, hope you still like them!
Ship specific notes
SWZ01 – T-65 X-Wing
Thanks to the now foldable S-foils the new X-wing hangar comes in two different sizes for both version, just in case you want to box some old X-wings or you have to glue a broken one.
SWZ04 – Customized YT-1300 Light Freighter
This MicroHangar comes in three variants, one for the freighter with the escape craft docked, and two separate hangars for both crafts. Thought it might be worth the effort.
